Today brings us the Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure Especial in a 5.5x50 vitola. Introduced in 2008 to be the top of the Epicure line the Epicure Especial is a follow up to the extremely successful and popular HDM Edition Limitada 2004. This is a very well constructed Cuban puro. The HDM Epicure Especial has medium bodied flavors of earth, cocoa, classic tobacco, grass, spice herbs and competing sweet and salty notes. I chose this to be today's cigar to pay homage to the 28 US Army Reservists lost and the other more than 100 service members injured on this day in 1991 in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. This occurred on the same day that the ground assault of the Gulf War started. This was considered to be the greatest tactical achievement of the Al Hussein missile as the US Army's 14th Quartermaster Detachment lost 81% of their unit.
