Jan 31st 2012 - Liga Privada Undercrown

Today brings us the Liga Privada Undercrown Robusto in a 5x54 vitola. The Liga Privada line is a major departure from what Drew Estate is known for, their infused cigars. The Undercrown was developed by the rollers at Drew Estate. They were smoking the No. 9 so much that they were told they had to stop as the tobaccos used for the No. 9 are hard to come by. As a result they created their own blend using different primings from the tobaccos for the No. 9 and then they topped it off with a new wrapper. The Undercrown has a San Andreas Maduro wrapper, a Brazilian Mata Fina binder with Dominican and Honduran fillers. The Undercrown will not disappoint with great flavors of cedar, spice, pepper, coffee, nuts and a classic tobacco sweetness. I chose this to be today's cigar to complete the triple crown of the Liga Privada cigars that I have.

Jan 30th 2012 - Liga Privada T52

Today brings us the Liga Privada T52 Toro in a 6x52 vitola. The Liga Privada line is a major departure from what Drew Estate is known for, their infused cigars. After the success of the Liga Privada No. 9 Drew Estate released the T52. The T52 wrapper has a very unique curing process. It is stalk cut instead of having the leaf picked off of the stalk. Then the stalk is hung upside down which makes for a much longer curing process but it yields great results. It makes the American Habano wrapper very flavorful and powerful. It has Brazilian Mata-Fina binder and has a mix of Central American tobaccos for the fillers. The T52 gives you flavors of spice, pepper, creamy chocolate, wood, pepper and a sweetness that rounds out this very complex but well balanced cigar. I didn't have anything to tie into today and figured I'd keep on the Liga Privada theme from yesterday.

Jan 29th 2012 - Liga Privada No.9

Today brings us the Liga Privada No. 9 Parejo Oscuro in a 6x52 vitola. The Liga Privada line is a major departure from what Drew Estate is known for, their infused cigars. Originally created as the daily cigar for the President of Drew Estate Mr. Steve Saka there was quickly a large public demand for it and so in 2007 a limited release was done. The Liga Privada No. 9 has a Connecticut Broadleaf Ligero Oscuro wrapper, a Brazilian Mata Fina binder with Dominican and Honduran fillers. The No. 9 gives you flavors of sweet cocoa, coffee, leather, earth, spice and pepper for a full flavored complex cigar. I chose this to be today's cigar to help wish a Happy Birthday to Rob Bironas. Rob is the kicker for my beloved Tennessee Titans and is in my opinion one of the best kickers in the league. Hope you have a happy and blessed birthday Rob! Thanks for all the great football

It features a Dominican Habano 2000 wrapper and it has fillers from Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic and Honduras. The Masters Select gives you an earthy, woody and nutty cigar that has hints of pepper and spice throughout. Danny valiantly gave his life fighting for our country on June 28th 2005 in the Hindu Kush Mountains of Afghanistan. Danny was on a mission with Michael P. Murphy, Marcus Luttrell and Matthew Axelson when they were discovered by 3 goat herders. Upon releasing them they immediately told the Taliban who launched a large scale attack on the 4 man SEAL team. Danny stayed in their first position to try and establish communications but was unsuccessful. He fought even after being shot multiple times and was being drug as he could no longer walk. Danny was awarded the Navy Cross, the 2nd highest Navy award, posthumously for his bravery and actions that day. Thanks for everything you did Danny we will never forget what you did for us.

It was on this day in 1947 that Al Capone passed away.

Starting with its first flavor notes of oak, chocolate and slight pepper that develop into a sweet oak, spice and earth with hints of dark coffee and nuts. I chose this picture as every dress box comes with 13 cigars and I saw no better way celebrate Friday the 13th than this, since there's not a Vorhees one yet. Have a great weekend everybody!

With the Azteca Fuerte you'll get great full flavors of earth, spice, coffee and a sweetness on the finish that brings it all together. I chose this to be today's cigar as it was on this day in 1930 that the first diesel engined automobile trip was completed. It was from Indianapolis, Indiana to New York, New York. This laid the groundwork for all the diesel engined vehicles we rely on today. Just as the people who drive them and work on them are blue collared people this is a blue collared smoke with it's great flavors and it's average price point of $2 - $2.50.

Jan 5th 2012 - Tatuaje Drac

Today marks three months that TheDailyCigar has been active and thanks to all of you it has been a great success with over 9K views and over 100 twitter followers in that time. I want to celebrate with the Tatuaje Drac in it's fang-shaped torpedo 6.75x52 vitola. I chose this to celebrate for two reasons one is that honestly the band on it is one of my favorites. It's a simple red and black foot band. Second is that I love love Halloween and the Monster Series that Pete does every year. The Drac was #2 in the series. It is a Nicaraguan Puro with a Habano Maduro wrapper. The Drac gives you flavor notes of chocolate, leather, spice, woody and small hints of mint throughout that makes this a fantastic cigar. Thank you to everyone who has supported the blog so much!

Jan 3rd 2012 - Joya De Nicaragua Dark Corojo Antano

Today brings us the Joya De Nicaragua Dark Corojo Antano Poderoso in a 6x54 vitola. The Dark Corojo Antano hails from Nicaragua and features all Nicaraguan tobacco. It features a foot band that says Double Fuerte which means Double Strong and boy is it. This cigar is packed pull of full bodied power and taste. It has flavor notes of leather, chocolate, coffee with hints of spice. I chose this to be today's cigar because it was on this day in 1999 that NASA launched the Mars Polar Lander. The Polar Lander was sent to study the soil and climate of Planum Australe, a region near the south pole on Mars. Unfortunately it lost communication on Dec 3rd 1999 after a high impact landing. Just as we launched the Mars Polar Lander into the deep dark space that's what you'll be doing with the Dark Corojo Antano.

Jan 2nd 2012 - Est. 1844

Today brings us the Est. 1844 No. 50-xtra in a 6x50 vitola. Est. 1844 is somewhat of an enigma as there's not much info on them out there. What I do know is that it has a San Andres Maduro wrapper and Nicaraguan long-fillers and binder. It has flavor notes of classic tobacco, earth, leather, pepper and chocolate. This is simply put a really great cigar. When you factor in it's box price of $49.95 for all vitolas it is one of the best values out there as well. I chose this to be today's cigar to pay homage to a classic American hero. One year ago today Maj. Richard "Dick" Winters passed away. Maj Winters was considered one of the top commanders of World War II. He commanded Company "E", 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. His decorations include the Distinguished Service Cross, Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart
Bronze oak leaf cluster, Presidential Unit Citation with one Oak Leaf Cluster, American Defense Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 service stars and arrow device, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Croix de guerre with palm, French Liberation Medal, Oorlogskruis with palm, Belgian WWII Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge with 2 combat stars, Medal of the City of Eindhoven. His leadership and courage was made famous by the book and mini series "Band of Brothers". Maj Winters is a classic example of leadership, patriotism and heroism just as the Est. 1844 is a classic example of a great cigar. Thanks for everything Maj. Winters.
