Nov 30th 2011 - San Lotano Oval

Today brings us the San Lotano Oval Toro in a 6.5x54 vitola. San Lotano is another one of AJ Fernandez's masterfully blended lines. The Oval is the newest addition to the line. The Oval features a 4+ year old Habano 2000 wrapper, a Nicaraguan Binder and a mixture of fillers from Nicaragua, Honduras and according to some of AJ Fernandez's secret filler. Hailing from Tabaclera Fernandez in Esteli, Nicaragua the Oval is simply fantastic. Flavor notes of light spice, cedary wood, coffee, leather and dark chocolate help to make this cigar as well rounded as the name would lead you to believe it is. Couldn't find anything in history to tie into today and have been wanting to feature the Oval ever since my buddy Stephen at WBFiller hooked me up with one the last time we herf'ed. If you haven't tried one yet do it. I can't imagine that any enthusiast new or old could be let down with this cigar.

Nov 29th 2011 - Gurkha Seduction

Today brings us the Gurkha Seduction Robusto in a 5x55 vitola. The Seduction is one of Gurkha's new releases this year. The Seduction features an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, a Dominican Olor binder and Colombian Corojo long fillers. With flavors of earth, spice, and a chocolaty sweetness that is complimented by woody notes the Seduction is a great new release that all enthusiast should give a try. I didn't have anything to tie into today and have been wanting to feature the Seduction. If you haven't tried it pick one up and give it try.

Nov 28th 2011 - My Uzi Weighs A Ton

Today brings us the My Uzi Weighs A Ton Toro in a 6x60 vitola. MUWAT is produced by Drew Estate's Subculture Studio with Joya de Nicaragua and is their first joint blend. With Nicaraguan and Brazilian Mata Fina long fillers, a Connecticut Capote binder and a San Andres maduro wrapper the MUWAT makes makes the mouth water upon seeing it. With a earthy core that features a slight sweetness, cinnamon, spice and a leather this cigar is a medium bodied surprise. I chose this to be today's cigar as today is the anniversary of the death of Leslie Nielsen. Leslie Nielsen was in more than 100 movies and was most notably known for his comedic work in Airplane and The Naked Gun trilogy. I loved watching his movies growing up and still love them. Thanks for all the laughs Leslie...

Nov 27th 2011 - Don Pepin Garcia Series JJ Maduro

Today brings us the Don Pepin Garcia Series JJ Maduro Selecto in a 5x50 vitola. With a broadleaf maduro wrapper and Nicaraguan corojo and criollo long fillers this oily maduro makes the mouth water upon seeing it. The DPG Series JJ Maduro has a leathery and earthy core, with a sweetness and spice that develop throughout this is one of the most well rounded maduros on the market. I chose this to be today's cigar as I only have 1 of them and have been wanting to smoke it but hadn't photographed it yet so now that I have it's on.

Nov 26th 2011 - Carlos Torano Fortress

Today's cigar is the Carlos Torano Fortress Cannon in a 4.5x60 vitola. The Fortress features a Nicaraguan Habano Rosado wrapper with Nicaraguan, Peruvian and Honduran long fillers. With a cedary leathery core with spice and a creamy slighty sweet note throughout. I really enjoy this cigar. It has a very simple band, oily wrapper and great construction. I decided to feature this as today's cigar as it's one of the cigars I brought with me down to TN and realized I hadn't featured any of the Torano family's products and wanted to feature them. If you haven't tried the Fortress pick up a few and give it a shot.

Nov 25th 2011 - #OccupyTheHumidor

Well it's finally here. #OccupyTheHumidor is happening! My good friend Stephen from WBFiller and I came up with #OccupyTheHumidor, a national herf day. A day where we forget about all the occupy wall street, and occupy this and that crap and focus on how to better ourselves, our families and those around us. Take this day to enjoy a great cigar, share one with a friend(s) and plan out how you will help out those around you. Some examples: Plan to volunteer at a shelter or a soup kitchen, join the big brothers/big sisters program, hold a canned food drive, etc

Nov 24th 2011 - Pinar Del Rio 1878 Cubano Especial Capa Madura

Thanksgiving brings us the Pinar Del Rio 1878 Cubano Especial Capa Madura in a massive vitola. I don't have the exact dimensions on it but it's hefty. The PDR 1878 Cubano Especial Capa Madura sports a Brazilian Maduro wrapper with a Dominican Criollo binder and fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican. With great spice, leather, earth, wood and a chocolately sweetness this cigar is a medium bodied gem. I picked this for Thanksgiving due to the fact that it looks big and meaty but isn't a full bodied beast of a cigar. With all the distractions of the holiday let us not lose focus when looking at the big deals or big meals and remember that underneath it all that it's all about family. Hope every had an awesome Thanksgiving!

Nov 23rd 2011 - Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real

Today's cigar is the Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Petite Robusto in a 4.25x54 vitola. Romeo y Julieta is a storied named in the cigar industry. Established in 1875 in Cuba we now enjoy their fine products out of the Dominican Republic. The Reserve Real is a solid medium bodied smoke. It features flavors of leather and nuts with hints of coffee throughout. This is a perfect morning cigar to have on the drive to work with your cup of coffee. I let my niece chose today's cigar as I had nothing in history to tie into today.

Nov 22nd 2011 - H. Upmann Reserve Maduro

Today's cigar is the H. Upmann Reserve Maduro Robusto in a 5x54 vitola. With a Mexican San Andres Morron wrapper, Nicaraguan Binder and fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras the H. Upmann Reserve Maduro is a fantastic cigar. With flavor notes of wood, nuts, coffee and a chocolately sweetness it is a very solid and enjoyable smoke. I chose this to be today's cigar as today marks the 48th anniversary of the death of the 35th President of the United States John F Kennedy. The Cuban H Upmann Petit Corona was JFK's favorite cigar and I don't have any of those but this one fills in just fine. JFK was a storied PT boat Captain in World War II who later moved to politics and was elected to President in 1960 and was sworn into office in Jan 1961. JFK is considered one of the greatest men to ever serve as the President. From his international and military relations, to how he reached people with his speeches JFK will be remembered as not only a steadfast man but also a people's President. RIP John and thanks for everything you did!

Nov 21st 2011 - EP Carillo

Today brings us the EP Carillo Core Maduro Club 52 in a 5 7/8x52 vitola. The EP Carillo Core Maduro hails from the Dominican Republic with a Connecticut broadleaf maduro wrapper, Ecuadorian Sumatra binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. The maduro version is the new addition to the Core line. With flavors of coffee, dark chocolate and a classic maduro sweetness to balance out it's complexity. I chose this to be today's cigar as I am visiting my family in TN and only have the cigars I brought with me right now so I randomly picked this one out of the herf a dor as I hadn't featured anything EP Carillo on the blog yet and am a big fan of everything Ernest Perez Carillo is doing upon his return to the industry.

Nov 20th 2011 - La Gloria Cubana

Today brings us the La Gloria Cubana Wavell in a 5x50 vitola. La Gloria Cubana is rich in cigar history with it's Cuban roots and longevity in the industry. Featuring a Ecuadoran wrapper with a Nicaraguan binder and it's fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. I was fortunate enough to get an official review by my good friend Stpehen from WBFiller on this cigar. "The LGC sumatra is a medium bodied cigar that showcases expert blending the finest construction and the classic cigar taste. The flavor profile consists of slight cream, light spices, and floral note thats great for anytime of the day." I chose this to be todays cigar because I'm heading home today for a week to visit my family in TN. This cigar reminds me of simple times in the old days and that's what TN feels like to me.

Nov 19th 2011 - Cigar Mold

Day 7 of gift guide week wraps things up with a Drew Estate Cigar Mold. Cigar molds are used to shape cigars after the torcedor bunches the fillers, wraps them in the binder and then after they are done in the press they are then topped off with their wrapper leaf. A cigar mold is rich in heritage and culture. It's a great addition to any man cave, smoking room, etc and can become a great conversation piece for parties and family get togethers. This will wow almost any cigar enthusiast and make a great addition to their tobacciana collection.

The outside features a dark brown, marbled finish and is lined on the inside with Spanish cedar as any good humidor is. With a lock and key on the front you never have to worry about anyone/anything else getting to your cigars. One of my favorite features is the 2 felt lined drawers in the bottom. Nov 17th 2011 - Cigar Brand Shirts

Day 5 of gift guide week brings us to shirts and a departure of my normal 1 photo. Today is extra special with 4 pics. Featured today is the Gurkha Evil white long sleeve shirt and the Room 101 Cigars black short sleeve shirt. Both of them are just awesome looking shirts. Cigar shirts are great ways of supporting your favorite brands even when you aren't smoking a cigar. Cigar shirts are unique which means that even though you're giving/getting clothes for Christmas, birthday, etc that the normal "Oh look I got clothes" stigma isn't there. Almost all enthusiast I know would be extremely pleased to receive apparel of their favorite companies.

Nov 15 2011 - Room 101 Cigar Scissor Cutter

Day 3 of gift guide week brings us the Room 101 Cigar scissor cutter. This is in my opinion the baddest looking cutter made. These things not only look great but they slice through the cap with ease. Designed by Matt Booth the man behind Room 101 for his current cigar tour Cigarmageddon. Styled with brass knuckles in mind this cutter impresses even non cigar smokers. Featuring a case with belt loop for easy carrying these are a great gift for any cigar enthusiast. If Cigarmageddon is coming through your town go by have a smoke with Matt and get a set of these with a box purchase. If you can't attend an event hit up to inquire about purchasing them.

Nov 14th 2011 - 3 Finger Travel Case

Day 2 of gift guide brings us one of my favorite accessories that I have. Today I'd like to feature a 3 finger cigar travel case. This is a great case to throw some smokes in when heading to work, the bar, wherever. It's small enough to fit in your pocket but will still hold cigars up to a 52 ring gauge with no problems. I've found if you only put 2 in you can get 2 56 ring gauge cigars in them. There are hard shell and soft like the one pictured below. Either way your smokes will protected and kept fresh for hours. This is a perfect gift for any enthusiast. If you are interested in getting a small travel case email and they will take great care of you. Tell them that TheDailyCigar sent you.

The cigars pictured are the Gurkha Royal Challenge, Tatuaje La Riqueza and the Room 101 Namakubi. I chose these 3 as they have all been very supportive of my blog and wanted to give them some extra publicity.

Nov 13th 2011 - Tatuaje Ashtray

Today I'm kicking off gift guide week. All week long I will be featuring great gift ideas for the cigar enthusiast in you life or as an easy way to give a hint about something you'd like for Christmas by sharing a link to the blog. Today I'm kicking it off in grand fashion with Tatuaje's black ashtray. This is hands down one of the best looking ashtrays I've ever seen. It's beautiful. It has rests for 4 cigars and plenty of room for any amount of ashes you and your buddies can fit into it. This ashtray is somewhat of a rarity now as it's no longer made. Sometimes you can get lucky and still find a shop that has one but they can be found online with relative ease. If you are looking for a beautiful ashtray to enhance your cigar smoking experience then you will be very hard pressed to find one better than this.

Nov 12th 2011 - Ashton Heritage Puro Sol

Today's cigar is the Ashton Heritage Puro Sol Robusto in a 5.5x50 vitola. The Ashton Heritage Puro Sol is a joint venture between the Fuente Family and Richard Meerapfel. This cigar features a Cameroon wrapper with it's fillers and binder coming from the Dominican. With flavors of tobacco, earth, a natural sweetness from it's wrapper and a hint of spice that makes it a pleasure for anybody to smoke. From aficionados to the newest enthusiast it will not disappoint. I chose this to be today's cigar to mark the 41st anniversary of the exploding whale incident in Oregon. When an 8 ton whale carcass washed ashore in Florence, Oregon the Oregon Department of Transportation Highway Division decided to try to blow it up which resulted in an epic fail. Afterward they said if another carcass ever washed ashore they would not repeat their same mistake. Let us not forget to study history to avoid making the same mistakes twice as you never know what you might find to help you out in whatever situation you could be going through.

Nov 11th 2011 - Room 101 Connecticut

Today's cigar is the Room 101 Connecticut Robusto in a 5x50 vitola. The Room 101 Connecticut is another of the 2011 releases for Room 101. With a Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, a Corojo binder and fillers from the Dominican and Honduras this isn't your average Connecticut. To quote the man behind it all "It's a Connecticut with a kick". With flavors of pepper, earth and a creamy sweetness that brings you the best of Connecticut wrappers without slacking on the flavor and body. I chose this to be today's cigar to stick with the same theme as yesterday. Today is Veterans Day. Matt Booth, the man behind Room 101, is a Veteran of the Marine Corps. I saw no better stick to celebrate today with than one made by a Veteran. Take a moment out of your day today to thank a veteran and any active or reserve service member for their service. If it wasn't for the sacrifices of them America wouldn't be what it is today. Also take a min to show your thanks for those who aren't here to celebrate Veterans Day with us, the ones who have passed on and the ones who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Happy Veterans Day to all the veterans and service members out there! Thank you for your service!

Nov 10th 2011 - Room 101 One Shot, One Kill

Today's cigar is the Room 101 One Shot, One Kill Perfecto pre-release sampler. The One Shot, One Kill is going to be the fifth line release for Room 101. Reviews on the pre-release sampler say that it is medium-full bodied with notes of leather, earth, nuts, citrus and allspice which come together beautifully and make this cigar very special. I chose this to be today's cigar because today is the 236th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. The Marine Corps has long been known as the fiercest fighting force in the world. One Shot, One Kill is a motto that Marines live by. My good friend and fellow Marine Matt Booth, the man behind Room 101, served as an 0331 Infantry Machine Gunner in the Marine Corps. I see no better way to celebrate the birthday of the Marine Corps than with a cigar made by a Marine. I also would like to ask everyone to take a moment out of your day and take a moment of silence or say a prayer for all the Marines who over the last 236 years have given their lives in service of the Corps and Country that they love so much. Happy birthday and Semper Fi brothers!

Nov 9th 2011 - Illusione Holy Lance

Today’s cigar is the Illusione Holy Lance Maduro in a 7.5x40 vitola. Hailing from Nicaragua the Holy Lance features all Nicaraguan tobaccos. Featuring an old world tobacco look with the pig tailed triple cap the Holy Lance Maduro features a dark rich brown wrapper. This medium bodied cigar features notes of black cherry and white pepper that is balanced out with a chocolaty sweetness. I couldn’t find much in history that I could tie into a cigar for today so I picked this as a random pick. The Holy Lance Maduro may not be easy to find as it’s a limited production cigar but if you can find any do yourself a favor and grab a few.

Nov 8th 2011 - Viaje C4

Today’s cigar is the Viaje C4 in its only size of 5x56. The Viaje C4 is box pressed and features a double cap that requires you to cut both ends before smoking. With all Nicaraguan tobaccos the C4 hails from Honduras. I can’t find much on the C4 and I haven’t smoked one yet as I only have 1 that I acquired in a trade. What I have heard is that the C4 is a powerhouse. I chose this to be today’s cigar because it was on this day 7 years ago that Operation Phantom Fury officially started. On 7 Nov 2004 the US Marines staged just north of the city of Fallujah, Iraq. Operation Phantom Fury was one of the bloodiest and hardest fought battles that occurred during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Roughly 6,500 US Marines, 1500 Army Soldiers and 2,500 Navy support personnel along with 2,000 Iraqi forces and 850 British personnel took on an estimated 2,500-5,000 insurgent in the battle. On Dec 23rd 2004 when Operation Phantom Fury officially ended US Casualties stood at 95 killed and 560 wounded, British Casualties 4 killed and 10 wounded, Iraqi casualties 8 killed and 43 wounded. Insurgent deaths stood in the range of 1,200-2,000 with roughly 1,500 captured. Some of the bravest tales of the war come from this battle. 2 Medal of Honor nominations and multiple Navy Crosses highlight the awards that came from the heroism showed by US Forces. Tales of men being shot and blown up and receiving basic medical aid and then returning to the fight as to not leave their men, their friends out there to fight alone have been told from this operation. Let us never forget what they did. To those who are still here and fought in Phantom Fury and to those we lost thank you. We are forever in your debt. RIP brothers…

Nov 7th 2011 - My Father Le Bijou 1922

Today’s cigar is the My Father Le Bijou 1922 Toro in a 6x52 vitola. The My Father line is produced by Jamie Garcia. Featuring all Nicaraguan tobaccos with its wrapper being a Habano Oscuro this cigar is beautiful. This medium bodied gem features prominent flavors of oak, sweet dark chocolate and classic aged tobacco with touches of pepper throughout. I chose this to be today’s cigar as a memorial for one of my good friends fathers who coincidentally gifted me this specific cigar back on my birthday. Mr. Robinson you may be gone but you raised a damn good man who is carrying on your family name in a way that would make any father proud.

Sunday, November 6, 2011

Nov 6th 2011 - Arturo Fuente Anejo

Today's cigar is the Arturo Fuente Anejo Reserva Extra No. 55 in a 6x55 vitola. The Fuente family is known for putting out only the highest quality of cigars. Hailing from the Dominican Republic with all it's fillers coming from there the Anejo features a 5-year-old Connecticut maduro wrapper aged in a cognac barrel. This cigar features a woody sweet core with hints of earth and spice on the finish. I chose this to be today's cigar because a good buddy of mine smoked one yesterday to celebrate some good things going on. He hasn't had a lot of those lately and wanted to celebrate the upswing for him by dedicating the blog to him. You know who you are brother and you'll continue to be in my thoughts and prayers...

Nov 5th 2011 - Gurkha Royal Challenge

Today’s cigar is the Gurkha Royal Challenge Robusto in a 5x55 vitola. The Royal Challenge is a new release from Gurkha this year. The Royal Challenge has fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic with a Honduran Habano binder and a Connecticut shade wrapper. I can honestly say this has to be one of the most beautiful bands I’ve ever seen on a cigar. With flavors of pepper and cedar wood that help enhance the creamy buttery tones that are the core of this cigar. I chose this to be today’s cigar as it was on this day in remembrance of the victims of the shooting at Ft Hood on this day in 2009. On that day 13 were killed and 30 others injured in a senseless tragedy. I challenge us all to not forget them and their families that were left behind.

Nov 4th 2011 - Tatuaje La Casita Criolla

Today's cigar is the Tatuaje La Casita Criolla HCB Corona in a 5 1/8x42 vitola. The La Casita Criolla hails from Nicaragua with all it's tobaccos being Connecticut Broadleaf. This Maduro is a 100% American Puro. The La Casita Criolla is a great medium bodied experience with flavors of spice, cinnamon, and a chocolate sweetness that is all held together by a nutty core. This cigar is about as flavorful as they come. The term La Casita Criolla means The Little Native House in Spanish. I chose this to be today's cigar as I'm getting ready to head back to my "native house" and visit my family in a few weeks.

Thursday, November 3, 2011

Nov 3rd 2011 - H. Upmann Sun Grown

Today's cigar is the H. Upmann Sun Grown Magnum in a 6x54 vitola. The H. Upmann Sun Grown label features a Sun Grown Ecuadorian wrapper with a Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro binder with Honduran and Nicaraguan fillers. This cigar features great notes of classic tobacco, wood, spice and a nice sweetness to round it out and bring it all together. While the flavors stayed consistent in my experience this cigar was just impressive. I chose it to be today's cigar because I really wanted to put this cigar out there and hopefully turn a few more people onto it as I don't hear much chatter about it. If you haven't had a chance to smoke one of these and you get the chance to do it!

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

Nov 2nd 2011 - Alec Bradley Tempus

Today brings us the Alec Bradley Tempus Quadrum in a 5.5x55 vitola. The Quadrum version of the Tempus is the box pressed version of this cigar and in my opinion the best out of the line. This version of the Tempus features a Honduran Habano wrapper with an Indonesian binder with it's long fillers coming from Nicaragua and Honduras. The Tempus features healthy amounts of spice and with a woody earthy nutty cocoa core with a hint of a sweet finish to finish off the amazing balance this cigar always gives. I chose this to be today’s cigar because I couldn’t find anything in history to tie a cigar too and have really wanted to feature the Tempus. I really can’t say enough good things about this cigar. If you haven’t tried it it’s a must smoke!

Nov 1st 2011 - San Miguel

Today’s cigar is the San Miguel Robusto in a 5x50 vitola. San Miguel is a box pressed beauty from AJ Fernandez. San Miguel features a Ecuadorian Sun Grown Sumatra wrapper with its long fillers coming from Jamastran in Honduras and Esteli and Ometepe in Nicaragua. This cigar features a earthy core with flavors of wood, spice and a hint of coffee that come through during the whole cigar. I chose this to be today’s cigar because today is all saints day. And I couldn’t think of a better cigar than San Miguel as that is Spanish for Saint Micheal who is the field commander of God’s Army. Happy All Saints Day to all the Catholics out there!
