Nov 11th 2011 - Room 101 Connecticut

Today's cigar is the Room 101 Connecticut Robusto in a 5x50 vitola. The Room 101 Connecticut is another of the 2011 releases for Room 101. With a Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, a Corojo binder and fillers from the Dominican and Honduras this isn't your average Connecticut. To quote the man behind it all "It's a Connecticut with a kick". With flavors of pepper, earth and a creamy sweetness that brings you the best of Connecticut wrappers without slacking on the flavor and body. I chose this to be today's cigar to stick with the same theme as yesterday. Today is Veterans Day. Matt Booth, the man behind Room 101, is a Veteran of the Marine Corps. I saw no better stick to celebrate today with than one made by a Veteran. Take a moment out of your day today to thank a veteran and any active or reserve service member for their service. If it wasn't for the sacrifices of them America wouldn't be what it is today. Also take a min to show your thanks for those who aren't here to celebrate Veterans Day with us, the ones who have passed on and the ones who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Nov 10th 2011 - Room 101 One Shot, One Kill

Today's cigar is the Room 101 One Shot, One Kill Perfecto pre-release sampler. The One Shot, One Kill is going to be the fifth line release for Room 101. Reviews on the pre-release sampler say that it is medium-full bodied with notes of leather, earth, nuts, citrus and allspice which come together beautifully and make this cigar very special. I chose this to be today's cigar because today is the 236th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. The Marine Corps has long been known as the fiercest fighting force in the world. One Shot, One Kill is a motto that Marines live by. My good friend and fellow Marine Matt Booth, the man behind Room 101, served as an 0331 Infantry Machine Gunner in the Marine Corps. I see no better way to celebrate the birthday of the Marine Corps than with a cigar made by a Marine. I also would like to ask everyone to take a moment out of your day and take a moment of silence or say a prayer for all the Marines who over the last 236 years have given their lives in service of the Corps and Country that they love so much. Nov 8th 2011 - Viaje C4

Today’s cigar is the Viaje C4 in its only size of 5x56. The Viaje C4 is box pressed and features a double cap that requires you to cut both ends before smoking. With all Nicaraguan tobaccos the C4 hails from Honduras. I can’t find much on the C4 and I haven’t smoked one yet as I only have 1 that I acquired in a trade. What I have heard is that the C4 is a powerhouse. I chose this to be today’s cigar because it was on this day 7 years ago that Operation Phantom Fury officially started. On 7 Nov 2004 the US Marines staged just north of the city of Fallujah, Iraq. Operation Phantom Fury was one of the bloodiest and hardest fought battles that occurred during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Roughly 6,500 US Marines, 1500 Army Soldiers and 2,500 Navy support personnel along with 2,000 Iraqi forces and 850 British personnel took on an estimated 2,500-5,000 insurgent in the battle. On Dec 23rd 2004 when Operation Phantom Fury officially ended US Casualties stood at 95 killed and 560 wounded, British Casualties 4 killed and 10 wounded, Iraqi casualties 8 killed and 43 wounded. Insurgent deaths stood in the range of 1,200-2,000 with roughly 1,500 captured. Some of the bravest tales of the war come from this battle. 2 Medal of Honor nominations and multiple Navy Crosses highlight the awards that came from the heroism showed by US Forces. Tales of men being shot and blown up and receiving basic medical aid and then returning to the fight as to not leave their men, their friends out there to fight alone have been told from this operation. Let us never forget what they did. To those who are still here and fought in Phantom Fury and to those we lost thank you. We are forever in your debt. RIP brothers…

Oct 23rd 2011 - Remember the Fallen

Today's cigar is unknown. It is a dark maduro with a closed foot and a pigtail cap. I chose this to be today's cigar based on what happened on the 23rd of Oct 1983. On this fateful day the Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon was bombed. In the attack on the Marines barracks, the death toll was 241 American servicemen: 220 Marines, 18 Navy personnel and 3 Army soldiers, along with sixty Americans injured, representing the deadliest single-day death toll for the United States Marine Corps since the Battle of Iwo Jima of World War II, the deadliest single-day death toll for the United States military since the first day of the Tet Offensive during the Vietnam War, and the deadliest single attack on Americans overseas since World War II. Let us not forget the fallen and their families on this day. RIP brothers...

Oct 11th 2011 - 5 Vegas Classic

Today's cigar is the 5 Vegas Classic 55 which is a 5.5x55 box pressed vitola. The 5 Vegas Classic is just that a true classic cigar. It is another Nicaraguan gem that features a sumatra wrapper with long fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. This is a solid creamy medium bodied smoke that has hints of earth, nuts and a slight sweetness throughout. I chose this to be today's daily cigar because today just as it's a classic so is the man it's dedicated to. Today is the day that General Chesty Puller passed on. Chesty Puller was the most decorated and the greatest Marine to ever put on the uniform. He was awarded 5 Navy Crosses, Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, 2 Legion of Merit's with Valor Device, Bronze Star with Valor Device, Purple Heart, and 2 Air Medals. These are just a few of his accomplishments. All in all he received the nations second highest award 6 times. He fought in the Banana Wars, World War II and the Korean War. Chesty never faulted and never backed down. Regardless of how bad things looked. He was a Marine's Marine a classic warrior who we can all look to.
